"Aamis Movie Review: Anurag Kashyap Presents a Unique Culinary Romance"

πŸŒ•πŸŒ•πŸŒ•πŸŒ‘πŸŒ‘ 3/5

Bhaskar Hazarika's latest film, Aamis, brought to you by Anurag Kashyap, might seem a bit unconventional for many, but for those with adventurous tastes, it's a delightful treat.

Two years after its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival, Aamis is now available on SonyLIV. If you subscribed for Scam 1992, you still have time to catch this gem.

Set in Guwahati, the movie initially seems like a simple romantic tale. Sumon, a PhD student, and Nirmali, a pediatrician, cross paths in unexpected ways. When Sumon seeks medical help for his friend's overeating mishap, a unique bond forms between them over Sumon's culinary club, where exotic meats are the main course.

As their relationship deepens, reminiscent of The Lunchbox, it becomes clear that Aamis is more than a love story. It subtly reflects on societal repression and the quest for liberation. Nirmali, played convincingly by Lima Das, navigates complex emotions as she explores her desires and confronts societal norms.

Hazarika crafts a narrative that gradually builds tension, leading to a surprising twist that challenges the audience's expectations. While some may find the film's serious tone a bit heavy-handed, it effectively conveys its themes of societal constraints and personal freedom.

Aamis, with its bold storytelling and exceptional performances, is a must-watch for those craving something different. It's a cinematic feast that leaves a lasting impression, echoing the rebellious spirit of films that defy convention.
